What AMS Employees Are Saying

AMS strives to provide every employee with a sense of community and belonging. We are only as strong as our team members, and ensuring our employees feel supported and equipped to tackle challenges is a top priority.

Ongoing education and career development are only part of the equation. We tie it all together with a winning culture.
Here are some things our incredible staff have to say about their experience working with AMS!

Jordan T
ACP – Community Paramedic Program

I began my career as a PCP on ground ambulance in NL. When my partner and I decided to relocate to Yellowknife, it was a decision filled with mixed emotions. AMS took much of the uncertainty out of the decision and went above and beyond to put us at ease during our move.

AMS has provided me with numerous opportunities across various roles, starting with my position at the local sobering center, Giant Mine, and Inuvik Ground Ambulance. After completing my ACP training, I transitioned to the Community Paramedicine Program in Nunavut, which has been incredibly fulfilling. Working at a remote health center allows me to expand my skills as a practitioner every day. And the breathtaking Aurora views – well they are just an added bonus!

Join the AMS family and experience it for yourself!

Dawn W
ACP – Community Paramedic Program

As an Advanced Care paramedic for 12 years, I transitioned from Casual to full-time employment with AMS in April 2022, a change I’m incredibly grateful for.

I work in the community of Mittimatalik, also known as Pond Inlet Nunavut, serving a population of approximately 1500.

Last July while waiting to get my luggage upon arriving in the community, I received a phone call informing me that I had Breast Cancer. My Manager Husein and the HR team promptly provided unwavering support, ensuring a smooth transition to disability leave. Their efficiency and compassion made the process much easier and they have checked up on me frequently while I have been on leave. The sense of family within AMS has been invaluable throughout this journey, and I look forward to returning to my duties with gratitude for the support received.

Gary L
Critical Care Flight Nurse Air Ambulance Program

Clinical Team Lead – Ground Ambulance Inuvik EMS

I started my career in pre-hospital back in 1988 with BC Ambulance Service. In Dec. 1990 I graduated as a Registered Nurse and have worked in tertiary Critical Care since. I joined AMS in April 2015 and have been passionately flying full time since.

What drew me to AMS was my lifelong career goal of working as a Critical Care Flight Nurse. The fact that I was given the opportunity to do so in the Arctic and work in an Advance Practice role was definitely a plus. My passion throughout my career has always been patient focused care. Here at AMS, I have been given the opportunity and support to be able to provide “big city” tertiary caliber care to our clients here in the remote north. I’ve had the pleasure of being based with AMS in Cambridge Bay NU and now in Inuvik NT.

What keeps me coming back is the team work and high quality patient care. The patient is always put first and treated with dignity and respect. I like the nurse/paramedic team dynamic where no one is made to feel less than but that we compliment each other. Team work goes far beyond the front line staff but simply put, “it comes from the top down.” From our President to our Leadership Team to our newest EMR in Inuvik or to the Procurement Team at our Yellowknife base we are all seen as equal and respected as such.

I’d like to thank AMS for putting faith in me and giving me the opportunity to do what I love with such an exceptional team!

I was pleasantly surprised to receive the Christmas present while stationed in Igloolik. Considering the fulfilling rotation here, it felt like an additional gift. The dry bag is greatly appreciated. Having worked with numerous companies globally, I can confidently say that you are top-tier. Thank you for the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the community and for your exceptional care of your employees.

ACP – Community Paramedic Program

I joined Advanced Medical Solutions (AMS) in 2022, focusing on Community Paramedicine projects in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut. With a consistent full-time schedule, I’ve spent the past year in Igloolik, Nunavut. My 13-year Paramedic career highlights the fulfillment of working in remote Arctic communities.

At AMS, my initiation included a one-week educational orientation in Yellowknife, enhancing primary care and advanced nursing skills, along with other medical proficiencies. This prepared me for the diverse demands of my role.

Paramedics in various northern communities deliver Primary, Emergency, and Chronic Care to Inuit and First Nation Peoples, working collaboratively with other healthcare practitioners. I enjoy completing patient assessments, lab data gathering, and developing comprehensive treatment plans.

My tenure with AMS has motivated me to pursue further education as I am committed to delivering the highest quality care to the communities I serve in.

ACP – Community Paramedicine Program

During the last 2 years , my time with AMS has been the highlight of my career, offering enriching experiences both professionally and personally. AMS has exposed me to various roles, including remote industrial, wildfire support, emergency departments, post-anesthesia care unit, and paramedic in community roles. These opportunities have taken me to 13 communities across NWT and NU, broadening my perspective in places that I would have never had the opportunity to serve in. Despite the vast geography, the Arctic is a small community, where familiar faces often reappear along my travels. For instance, I recently encountered Hilary, a former colleague from Fredericton, now working with the AMS Air Ambulance Program, during a medevac handover in Hay River.

I’ve had numerous cultural experiences, such as encounters with seals, caribou, belugas, and polar bears, that I would have not had the opportunity to experience otherwise!
